This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a background with not much life experience. They are 100% FREE lunch and breakfast. All but 3 of my students ride the bus to and from school every day. There is one elementary school for our entire county. The bus routes are rather long. Some of my students are on the bus for more than 2 hours every morning and afternoon. Our county is very rural and a lot of my students live in places where they have no neighbors. They are sweet children that rely on school to give them the life experience that they aren't getting from home. For the most part, they enjoy school and look forward to learning.
My Project
As a third grade teacher, the toughest thing to teach is the memorization of multiplication facts. My students are able to find the answers to multiplication problems through addition or drawing pictures but the greatest challenge is getting them to just know their facts. That comes with motivation. I can remember my third grade teacher having something similar to this and I couldn't wait to memorize. I think having a set of these "wrap ups" will help motivate my students to want to learn their facts and even create a little competition to push them even farther. I want my students to go to 4th grade and know all their multiplication facts!
