Mr. J. from LA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a desktop computer, audio equipment, a tablet with accessories, and an audio splitter to build our technology station in the high school classroom.

We are a classroom of scholars. Students are constantly engaged in improving literacy in an effort to foster achievement for college, career, and beyond. Allowing students to be active in the instruction process is KEY to influencing student engagement -- and, in turn, comprehension.
Located near the city of New Orleans in an urban public school system students at our school often come to us behind and in need of remediation in order to grow and achieve their dreams.
As a Title-I school with over 80% of students on free and reduced lunch our demographics do not own us when it comes to student achievement. We shall overcome any challenge and live up to our school motto: Veni, Vidi, Vici (We came, we saw, and we conquered). Our 9th grade English Language Arts classroom operates like a creative machine. We work hard, everyday, to turn struggling students into literary masters who can tackle any text, task, or test put in front of us. By keeping a positive -- growth driven mindset our students are achieving and ultimately reaching their dreams. Being a freshman level classroom, we are also working hard to prepare students for the rigor, engagement, and positive behavior needed to succeed in high school and beyond.
These materials will be used exclusively by our students. In order to keep engagement and rigor high we utilize a station based learning model quite often. This model uses stations with multiple activities that students rotate through during the course of the class period. The technological resources requested will allow for the addition of a technology station where students will watch video, participate in web based exploration activities such as webquests or virtual tours, read digital texts, and conduct research using a variety of web based resources. The station is invaluable considering the need for technology based instruction in the secondary classroom. Audio headphones and a splitter will ensure that the technology station does not distract from the work other stations are putting in simultaneously. Finally, a tablet will allow for extension tasks to differentiate for special education or honors students who are often mainstreamed into the general education classroom.
Investing in our classroom will have a net positive effect for students for years to come.
Specifically, students will learn to work collaboratively -- a required skill in the modern workplace. Also, due to a complete lack of acceptable and working technology this technology station will play a vital role to ensure that students are able to access, use, and master technological needs that will keep them on track toward success in both college and career.
