This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently a Math teacher. I teach in a high needs New York middle school. I am trying to acquire a Microsoft Surface tablet for our Math classroom. Technology in the classroom has proved to meet the needs of all learning styles and age groups.
Many of the students in my school are struggling financially.
Most students in the school (+65%) qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Often times, the students come into school without the necessary materials to succeed in school. My school has suffered again from budget cuts and teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire. I do not want my students to go without. My students are diverse learners and I need a technology component to meet the demands of modern teaching.
My Project
Classes are packed to the maximum and all of my students would greatly appreciate and take huge advantage of the Microsoft Surface selected. Since the majority of the school's kids come from low income families, technology is not readily available in most homes. School is really the only place they have the opportunity to experience technology. The common core demands that teachers create and design lessons integrating technology to actively engage all learners and prepare students to be College & Career ready. Through technology use my students will gain a well-rounded education that provides more challenges, more engagement, and more life skills that will allow them to face the real world with a stronger sense of responsibility and respect.
This is my first proposal and I am in desperate need of assistance in acquiring a technology component for my Middle School Math classroom.
