My Project
This fabulous group of learners I have the privilege of teaching this year are excited, energetic and have the special talent of being multilingual. Often these students are delighted by the cover art of books and want to dive in, only to find that they can’t read the English words on the page. As a teacher, it’s frustrating knowing that my students have great comprehension skills, but can’t express their thinking because the words on the page are not in their home language.
This set of books will help my students transfer their Spanish comprehension skills into English.
By giving students engaging books to read, they will be able to talk about the story elements and showcase their understanding of how stories go (characters, setting, rising action, problem and resolution). This supports equitable access to reading for all my learners, regardless of the language they speak.
Not only will this book set help my learners show what they know and foster a love of reading, but the look of joy on their faces when they see books they can read and connect with will make this teacher’s heart very full.
