Multilingual Cafe Supplies for Our Middle School

My Project

I am lucky to teach the most amazing students. They are bilingual in Spanish and English, developing their literacy in both languages. As 8th graders, they are always looking for how to prepare for their first jobs. I’d like to have the supplies to allow them to have a weekly Coffee Cart. Students and staff can come and order drinks and practice their Spanish!

Spanish is our most common home language at our school; this project would let us support Spanish in our school, build job skills for students and create a stronger bilingual community at our school!

Imagine that each week, students could come at designated times to order their drinks. Students in each class would have the chance to practice their job skills - taking orders, handling change, tracking sales, etc… I get excited to think about how it could develop! Perhaps some of my students who speak Somali, Vietnamese, or another language could teach us to order in those languages as well!
