Help me give my students multicultural texts so that every student can find themselves in a text. When students find themselves in a text their self esteem rises and their engagement increases.
I have the honor of sharing a classroom with group of 22 second graders who come to school eager to learn. Our school has a very diverse population and we've found that the more choices the students in our space have, the safer they feel to make risks in their learning.
Our goal each day is to provide an environment that is safe, nurturing, and provides guidance to enable them to make these choices.
We've found that working together as a team helps build our community, enabling the students to feel free and safe in our space.

My Project
We are striving to collect more multicultural texts for our 2nd grade classroom. When students see characters like Jada, Janie Ray, and Alvin Ailey they will realize that they are similar to themselves. When they see these characters in a book students are more engaged, their self esteem rises, they feel valued! Who doesn't want to see someone like them within the pages of a book? We have a lofty job as educators to make sure all students are represented within the walls of our school. Please help make this goal become a reality by bringing these books to our classroom!
