Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students rarely leave their community. I want them to know that the world is a big place, with many places to explore and people to meet.

My students are second graders at a Title I, 100% free lunch school.

About 65% of my students are English Language Learners. Though their school is in an inner city area, they enjoy the outdoors and exploring their world. My students enjoy reading about a variety of topics, both fiction and non-fiction.

My Project

My students need book bins and multicultural books. Having a variety of multicultural books, such as My Friend Jamal and The Name Jar, will allow my students to learn about the world and ultimately themselves as they read about new places and learn about courageous people. With the help of book bins, my students will be able to keep this new selection of books well organized.

With the successful fulfillment of this project, my students will have access to places beyond their community without leaving their classroom.

Having a variety of multicultural books will open their eyes to the vastness of the world, and generate curiosity in exploring the world, people and places beyond their neighborhood.
