Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Dual Language school in Washington, D.C. We are a Kindergarten class with children from all different cultural backgrounds. They are a great group of kids! They are very enthusiastic, have loads of energy, and have kind, caring hearts.
Like typical Kindergarteners, they love playing outside, sports, dance, arts and we pride ourselves in creating a love for reading and writing from a very young age.
They are passionate about reading and get very excited when we have new books in our library. Therefore, our students need new and high-interest books to keep them engaged.
My Project
These books will help my students feel like they matter and are represented in our classroom. The project has a majority of multicultural books featuring brown and black characters. As a Dual Language school, we also have the obstacle of finding good quality books that are varied and multicultural, but also in Spanish.
A classroom library is a place that students really enjoy.
They read on the carpet, complete work, go to learn about the world, learn more about themselves, other cultures, and new languages.
All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, making sure they all feel welcome, loved, and represented and also have access to those famous titles that are rarely found in Spanish.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
After over a year of pandemic and online learning; they need and deserve this! This project will make a big impact on my students' lives!
