Help me give my students the opportunity to design and create multicultural clay masks that could represent their personal history, culture, interests, or ideas.

My Project
My students absolutely love making things with clay. We do not have a kiln, so we always use air dry clay. Our normal budget allows my students to make a single, small, one ounce air dry clay sculpture per year. The project I am proposing will allow students to create a larger piece. Students will learn about masks from a variety of cultures around the world. Our school is very diverse racially/culturally, and I believe learning about art from different places, and possibly seeing art from their home country, would be so personal and meaningful for them.
This project would allow each student to have approximately 3 ounces of air dry clay to create a mask that is personal and meaningful to them, after studying many from around the world.
The mask will be life sized. I have plastic support molds that will help keep their shape while drying, as well as help with facial proportions. It will be the largest clay project they have ever made with me. We already have paint, feathers, string, sticks, and other things for embellishing the masks, to help express their ideas with details.
