My Students
My students are hesitant readers. They are English Language Learners and they struggle to read in their new second language. They need to be inspired to read!
My students home languages are Russian, Hebrew, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Haitian Creole.
They not only need to learn language skills but they must also gain background knowledge in my subject areas in order to keep up with their English speaking classmates.
My Project
These books are both fiction and non-fiction high interest readers. Some of the titles will serve as independent reading books and others will be read aloud and shared with the class. Students will learn about a variety of authors and subject matter.
I have chosen a wide variety of titles and included authors from other cultures as well as biographies from minority populations.
My students will gain the language and reading skills they need while learning about different cultures from around the world.
