Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty area where many of my kindergartners come in at a PreK level or below. But this does not stop them. They are energetic, loving, caring, and excited to learn, especially when it comes to using our iPads in the classroom.

Although my students face challenges in their everyday lives such as lack of food and homelessness, they are wanting to make a change for the better and cheer for each others success.

The drive these little people show every day is truly inspirational and each child leaves an impression on another each day.

My Project

After reflecting on the past school year, I realized I wanted to include books that represent my students culture more. Research proves that when books are read with people instead of animals students learn more and have a greater moral impact than those with animals.

Additionally, multicultural books serve as an important tool in students gaining an understanding of their own culture and also the culture of others which leads to acceptance and empathy.

To help change the world for the better, it begins at home and in the classroom.

These books will leave an impact on students to push through difficult times and teach them of others.
