This vast collection of books for our classroom library features characters and heritage of many cultures and identities such as Native American, Hispanic, Asian, African American, and Deaf cultures as well as students with disabilities.
It is important for my students to see themselves and others in books to understand that they are valued and that everyone belongs in our classroom community.
These books come in a wide range of reading levels, from picture books to easy readers to chapter books. This allows students of any reading level to access the stories and learning. I am also requesting a variety of multicultural and diverse coloring books, so students can interact with and take home some of what they read and learn about. Coloring together leads to student discussion and also improves students' creativity and finger dexterity.
