This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A multi-sensory environment can open up a whole new world for students with special educational needs and disabilities. All of my students are from a low-income community and most families do not have the resources or space to provide a sensory room for their children.
A sensory room offers a therapeutic space for children with cognitive diverse learning profiles.
Flexible seating, weighted stuffed animals and vests, mood lighting, smooth sounds, and touch-textured materials can be used to improve a variety of emotional regulation, behavioral difficulties, and cognitive skills. A calming sensory room can help neurodiverse students and students struggling with mental health, improve their education and daily skills. By providing a sense of calm and comfort, a sensory room can help my students learn to self-regulate their behaviors and emotions, which ultimately improves focus and cognitive development.
