Multi-Sensory Literacy Manipulatives

My Project

My students come to school each day eager to learn. A huge part of first grade is learning to read. This past year I have been studying the Science of Reading, which teaches us how the brain connects letter sound and symbol to process words. I have revamped my teaching by implementing strategies in my classroom that allow students to manipulate letters and sounds using a hands-on approach.

Research has shown that multisensory learning is one of the most effective methods to help students develop stronger literacy skills and I want to give my students as many opportunities to learn as I can.

I have found that using manipulatives to help sound out words benefits every student, especially those who are struggling. Students are also more engaged when they are using their hands. All the items I have asked for are tactile resources to help my students practice literacy skills.
