At my school, students come from many different countries, and will have a variety of capabilities with speaking the English language.
Over the course of the past months, I have had many new students join my classes that speak a language other than English.
The materials that I am requesting, including books that are in various languages with English translations, will encourage all of my students to read, and will help them develop their English reading and speaking skills. These materials will help the English language learners and newcomers, by providing them with ways to learn the language that are fun, engaging, and don’t set them apart from their peers. High interest texts, such as comic book graphic novels, translated poems and music that is relatable will encourage their love of reading.
In addition, the storage rack will allow us to create a small center to display our new materials that will allow for a multi-cultural center to be established within our classroom.
