Nothing inspires a reluctant reader like a great book series!
My students are sixth graders who attend an urban high poverty school.
Many of them are very reluctant readers because they have not had a lot of exposure to great children's literature. Most of them have seen the Harry Potter films, but have never experienced the far greater fantasy and wonder created in the novels.
My Project
Over the past 14 years I have seen hundreds of reluctant readers turned on to reading by the Harry Potter Series of novels. Unfortunately in the last few years I have noticed fewer and fewer students picking up the book because they have already seen the films. There is so much more to the fantastical, magical world that author J.K. Rowling has created in the pages of her books that never reached the movie screen. I want to be able to unlock those wonders for all of my students by reading the first book in the series together. I am requesting 75 copies of "harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for my students to read together in class.
My students desperately need greater exposure to great, age-appropriate literature!
I can think of no greater book to inspire them to read than "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone"!
