My Project
I teach physical education at North Star Elementary in Anchorage, Alaska. Our amazing K-6th grade students come from very diverse backgrounds and almost all qualify for free and reduced lunches. Our school also has three structured learning classrooms and a preschool program that will benefit from your donation. There are many more activities that I would love to incorporate into my P.E. program, but we are currently lacking the proper equipment. Along with teaching health, fitness, and sports activities, my P.E. program focuses greatly sportsmanship, teamwork, self-control, problem-solving and mindfulness. These are skills that can be used in all other aspects of school and in life and would be enhanced through the proper equipment this donation project would bring.
Most of my students do not have opportunities for sports and fitness activities outside of the school day, so high quality PE instruction is paramount to their overall health and wellbeing.
Our biggest need is for scooters that will be used for many different activities that will promote the physical, social and emotional, and cognitive development in the students at North Star. We are also in great need to a variety of objects that can be used for throwing and catching activities.
This is my first year at North Star and much of the equipment is old, broken, or incomplete. I'm hoping to build the equipment supplies for my students so that they can have the best PE experience possible for many years to come. Thank you for considering to donate to our amazing students!
