Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with bilingual students, many of them new to the country. All of them are at different stages of language progression, with the bulk of them at the beginning and emerging stages. A hundred percent of my students come from low income or no income families, and for this reason, all of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many parents are unable to provide school supplies, uniforms and pay for school trips.
The school provides many backpacks with school supplies. In addition, uniforms are given to the students due to the fact that they are living in shelters. The school had financial assistance for students who cannot afford to pay for educational trips. Many of my students arrive very early to school, and at dismissal, wish they could stay.
My Project
For this project I am requesting some basic materials for my students. The items we need are 4 backpacks, pencil pouches, and composition notebooks.
I have four students needing backpacks at the moment and their parents aren't able to provide them.
If the students aren't living in shelters, the school cannot provide them with supplies. These are essential items we will be using throughout the school year. By having access to these items, I hope to level the playing field for my struggling learners while also creating an environment of joy for them to instill a love of learning for a lifetime. Thank you very much for reading!
