My students need an up-to-date listening center (Samsung laptop, 9 Sandisk mp3 players, 9 wall chargers, and 9 kid friendly headphones) to help develop their reading skills, and to encourage and excite them to become readers for life.
Have you ever witnessed the moment when a child first sees themself as a reader? This is something I get to witness every year being an early childhood educator. My students come from different backgrounds, but all have technology as one common interest.
My students represent different races, religions, and economic status.
Our school has 3 programs (International pathways/bilingual gifted, self contained behavior, neighborhood regular ed). About 70% of our students travel to our little city neighborhood to be a part of a unique learning community. I have students who come reading the first day and students who are in early stages of reading development. Some students need more support and time while others need opportunities to keep their learning developing at a fast pace. They are all one of a kind! It is challenging but WONDERFUL!
My Project
Every year I adapt and evolve my teaching and learning environment to meet the needs of my students every year. I am requesting a Samsung laptop, 9 Sandisk mp3 players, 9 wall chargers, and 9 kid friendly headphones. These items will help me build a digital listening library. I have collected many books in my 19 years of teaching, but a digital format will allow students more variety of text and higher level structured books to my diverse readers.
Being the parent of two children who struggled to learn to read, audio books were the secret to my children accessing a love of reading while they slowly developed their reading skills. (They are now avid readers in 9th and 5th grade).
A digital listening library will let all readers access books no matter where they are in their reading development. No one is left out!
Reading is the key to success and the way to access knowledge and understanding of the world we live in.
Students can read to know their past, and gain knowledge to create a future. This is why my job of teaching kids to read is so important. The better I do my job, the more success my students will have.
The materials I have requested will help me be organized and use technology to excite and bring a variety of text to my eager, diverse readers.
