This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very excited about learning and really love and enjoy being in the classroom. Although some of them are well below grade level, they still show up with excitement and determination to learn and master whatever I am teaching them that day. The environment of our school is predominantly minority and most campuses in the area are Title 1 and our school is located in a rather rough area. Many of my students have families that are struggling financially. Support for education has a low priority and I worry that some of my students are only used to someone making a big deal about learning at school which is why I want to provide the best and most engaging environment for them and really make them happy to be in the classroom working and learning.
I am an ELA teacher so it is also my priority to provide an amazing and comfortable reading environment and really help my students to appreciate the importance of reading and enjoying it.
One of the things I love about my kids is that even the students that can't read well still try and get excited about the idea of stations and spaces that I plan to create for them and their personal reading time.
My Project
These materials will help to make my classroom and students more excited about reading stations and all that I plan to bring to life during our ELA time together. The notebooks will help us to form our interactive notebooks and the seat cushions will bring our small reading area to life by providing comfortability and making the students excited about reading in our carpet area.
I want to make our library reading area more appealing and really draw students to want to sit for a long period of time to read with their classmates or alone during read to self time.
