Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom will be abuzz with new first graders! The students at my school each come in with varying backgrounds both culturally and academically. Some come into first grade fluently reading above grade level. While others come in still trying to master their letter sounds.
My school and neighborhood is very inviting and supportive.
Although parents are unable to volunteer due to their many jobs they are always willing to take time to talk about their child's progress and how they can help at home. Students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch due to the economic standings of many of our families.
My Project
Elephant and Piggie are an essential part of a first grade class library. The excitement all students get from reading these books is contagious!
Students come in with different reading levels and these books helps low readers read simple dialogue and helps higher readers read with expression.
Reading in first grade can either be a task or an enjoyable experience. My job as their teacher is to make it the latter. These books are great for a read aloud where I can model fluent reading and students can practice this fluent reading through these books! I can't wait to help my students enjoy reading and these books will do just that!
