My students are the most amazing people on this planet! They are caring and kind, and they are so hopeful that people will reach out and help them. They would so love to have an opportunity to learn first-hand about our government by visiting Washington, DC.
We are a very diverse school with students from all different socioeconomic backgrounds.
The students who I'm trying to help are ones who would never get a chance to travel on their own. They are learning about the world as we move forward with this project.
My Project
Students from Alameda, California will travel across the country---it's the first time in an airplane for most of them---and go to Washington, DC for a four day visit. My students will see how our government functions first-hand!
Students will visit the Smithsonian Museums, the new African-American Museum, and Congress.
The visit will include George Washington's home, Mt. Vernon! They will go to the Holocaust Museum and see sights like the World War II Memorial, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials and the Washington Monument. They will visit the National Archives and see the Constitution as well as Ford's Theater where Abraham Lincoln was shot. They even get to go to the Supreme Court!
