Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students I work with have a variety of unique needs, and it is essential to meet those needs in order to create a stress-free and supportive school environment where they can feel safe and be themselves. I teach special education for grades K-2, and my goal for this project is to not only carry the necessary materials to support students across our campus, but to also create a functional, organized, and sensory-rich learning environment that fosters growth and development.

Some students require a specific routine to thrive in school, and the items I am requesting will directly contribute to their success.

I provide instruction in basic reading skills, math, writing, and social skills. Additionally, I support students in regulating their emotions and behaviors, and part of this involves creating a calming corner with sensory tools and comfortable seating. This space will feature a cushioned floor that’s easy to clean, various sensory items to promote regulation, and a tri-divider whiteboard to encourage creativity.

The requested items will also help me stay organized and maintain a structured, routine-based learning environment. This organization helps students know exactly where their belongings are and where to focus next. The chair will provide a comfortable reading space for independent learning, and the phonics bundle will help me teach reading in a way that best supports each student's learning style.

The students are unique individuals with diverse needs who thrive in a supportive and structured environment. With the right tools and strategies, they grow and succeed in areas like phonics, math, social skills, and emotional regulation, making them truly special learners.
