it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hi everyone! My name is Sarita Lavin (she/they) and I am a Guatemalan-American Ethnic Studies, US History, and Women and Gender Studies Teacher at George Washington High School in SF. This year, in an effort to spread out costs amidst record inflation and stagnating wages in SFUSD, I am asking for support with funding my classroom!
I believe that all students deserve access to free healthcare products, snacks, fresh fruit, and school supplies at school- but unfortunately, sufficient funding is not available for these necessary items in SFUSD.
Last year, I paid for students to have these materials out of pocket at roughly $500/month plus added costs of gas, because the difference it made to the low income students was tremendous. Simply having easily accessible basics made a huge impact on their outcomes at school- according to one student, "When I could focus on just learning because I'm not hungry or worried about where I can get what I need, that makes me feel safe and appreciated and helps me actually do good."
It would mean the world to my students and to me for our community to step in and support! Any donation amount is deeply appreciated by all of us and will make a huge difference to our school. Thank you in advance for your support! :)
