Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am looking for this project to be funded because each week my students are able to take five books home from our classroom library to read at home. Currently I have a very small portion of books in Spanish. The majority of my students are bilingual (100% this year). I would like to provide them with more books in Spanish so that they can take the books home and read with their families. There is so much joy in the ability to read and share books together and this project would help to create those experiences with my students and their families.

Yesterday my students changed their books for the first time and one student was so excited to be able to take home one book in Spanish because he said "My mom speaks Spanish, we can read it together!" It was incredibly powerful to see the excitement he had in being able to take home just one book to read with his mom.

I would like continue to add more books in Spanish so that my students are all able to take a few books in Spanish home each week if they would like.
