Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
By investing in calming seats, I hope to provide my students with a place to go in times where they are needing a separate space to emotionally regulate. These seats will provide a consistent space in our classroom where students can use different tools such as breathing exercises, fidgets, and talking stems to express and work through emotions preventing them from fully engaging in the learning taking place.
My goal is to use this calming corner to teach my students how to use different strategies for emotional regulation.
I also want to honor that sometimes my tiny humans need a break and a separate space to be able to process their feelings, with the goal of being able to express them appropriately with an adult at a later time.
My Kindergarten students are learning how to be in school for the very first time, and giving them a useful calming corner will help them process and express the intimidating and new feelings that come along with Kindergarten.
