My students need different seating options to complete their work more efficiently. The Alphabetter Desk, especially, will help children who need to stand while working. This seating helps those who wiggle or have difficulty sitting up.
We are a gifted and talented classroom in Brooklyn, New York. My classroom is filled with intellectually stimulated students, however, they are all diverse and learn in their own unique way.
My gifted students take such pride in their learning environment and we spend a great deal of time in our classroom together.
Social-emotionally, gifted students enjoy their time with self-exploration and independent projects that gear to their interests. I love allowing my students to use our classroom as a second home. My students enjoy using the classroom resources and centers that enrich their learning. Each year, adding a new component to my classroom brings such joy to the children and a refreshing excitement for me. I am so happy that Donor's Choose makes that possible!

My Project
As we all have experienced, sitting for long periods of time at a seat can be taxing on the body, mind, and concentration. Throughout my seven years of teaching, each day, all day, I would see children sitting uncomfortably while working. As I have done more and more research about flexible seating, one can't help but see the many benefits it can bring to any classroom.
Flexible seating can assist a variety type of learners in an educational setting!
In my classroom, I have seen the benefits when I have given children who wiggle in their seats a balance cushion. This simple tool has helped so many of my wigglers, to sit, relax, slightly wobble on it, and focus on their work. The cushioned seating, stools, and balance balls will allow the children in my class to utilize them for their specific needs. The Alphabetter Desk, especially, will help children who need to stand while working. Instead of focusing on unnecessary discomfort or the distractions that come along with sitting, these types of flexible seating allows for more concentration and connectedness to learning at hand.
All students will have an opportunity to choose the seating options that work for them, therefore every student in the room will have an opportunity to explore if these tools can assist them in their learning. We move around so much in our room, throughout the content areas, between a group and hands-on learning, I am completely confident these resources will be put to great use for all to use during our instructional and social times each and every day!
