My students need items that will really make our little classroom feel more like a studio; a drying rack to store works in progress and more natural lighting to make our room feel more like home.
I teach elementary art to the most amazing artists! I teach approximately 750 students in grades K-5 in 2 schools. Over 50% of the students in one of my schools are English Language Learners and many students at my other school are in special education programs. Both schools are in the largest school district in Ohio and service the highest population of low-income families in the area.
My students are some of the sweetest, most caring students I has ever had the pleasure of teaching!
My Project
Children are able to be more creative in an environment that they are comfortable in. The origami, clay, paint labs and lap boards will help transform our little classroom into a cozy art studio with softer lighting, extra supplies, and a place for all of our works in progress to dry. Our classroom doesn't get very much natural light and the fluorescent lights often give my students headaches. Having additional lighting floor lamps will give us more flexibility to find what works best.
We share our room with the vocal and instrumental music teachers as well, so keeping our supplies and materials organized is very important.
We can store our construction paper or in-process projects on the double-sided drying rack, keeping them safe and out of the way.
