Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Have you ever been asked to sit on a floor that was so damaged it was being held together by duct tape? Most of us would say no but my students would have to tell you yes.

My students come from one of the lowest income areas in Michigan.

Despite their economic status my students are extremely eager to learn and work diligently to do their best. They are between the grades of kindergarten and fifth grade. All of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and breakfast.

My Project

My students already come into my room with needs that are not met. I feel like I am not meeting their needs because I can not provide them with a clean, comfortable, and taken care of place to sit. They have a million reasons to come in unfocused already and the carpet they sit on should not be a factor. Giving us a carpet would help my students come in knowing where to go and knowing it was a safe place. They would be focused and ready to start the lesson right away.

My project is important because my students need to have a place to meet together that is taken care of.

I do my best to make my room feel safe, clean, and welcoming because they may not get to be in a space like that often. Right now my room is missing what sounds like just a carpet but really its the meeting place for our room.
