Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way." George Evans. I am a firm believer that as a teacher, it is my job to create a classroom that meets the differentiated needs of all of my learners. Each student has their own unique way of learning.
Walking into my classroom, my students are bright-eyed and eager to learn.
Coming from a diverse neighborhood, they often are not provided the necessary resources and support to further meet their academic and emotional needs. Reading is a way to connect to my students' needs and develop their passion to learn. I admire the way my students overcome adversity at such a young age and their willingness to overcome that adversity. The school that I work at is filled with passionate educators, administration, and staff that is dedicated to meeting the needs of their students--contributing to an overall collaborative environment where teachers work together on a daily basis and provide the best instructional practices in their classroom.
My Project
Differentiated literacy centers are incorporated on a daily basis in order to meet the many different needs of my students. Poetry, listening to books, reading to a partner, word work, and writing are just a few of the centers that my students partake in. The fluency cards will be used in the poetry center in order for students to gain fluency so that they can be smooth, articulate readers. The headphones are student-friendly, making the listening center easy to use and accessible to all students. They love reading classics like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs or Blueberries for Sal; the additional listening center books will further foster that passion! The read & write slips are great for students to reuse and reread reading material, spelling activities and more! Finally, the TIME subscription will keep students invested in learning about current events as well as learning about different features of non-fiction.
In order to meet the variety of students' needs in my classroom, it is necessary that they receive resources and support in their learning environment.
By contributing to this project, you will further support materials that foster children's love for reading and their love of learning. I am firm believer in facilitating life long learning--in hopes that our children can further contribute to a world in need of innovators, inventors, and creators.
