Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As school social workers, we see many trends in students' mental health and their ability to focus in class. Having snacks, fidget toys, and other social emotional tools, is helpful to keep them engaged and also help them regulate their emotions. Many times, students are often hungry and a snack helps them get through the class. Many of the students do not have access to these tools at home and are able to take a fidget toy to class with them to help them reduce anxiety.
High School on its own can be a lot for any human being to handle.
Not only is high school a very anxiety inducing environment, it is also the time in development where most self esteem issues arise. I plan on using the photo printer to develop photos of each child struggling with self esteem. These photos will be used to engage the children in positive self talk and hopefully increase self esteem in these children.
My students are sweet kids that full of energy and with diverse personalities. They are motivated and passionate about their futures after high school. I can see positive changes in their attitudes from the little support I have been able to provide, but having this project approved will really make an impact in their overall functioning throughout the school year.
