My Project

Hi! My names is Dominique Jackson and I am a school social worker. I am coming to you requesting your help to make my mental health space a non-stimulating and regulating space where students can open up, be vulnerable, and grow into who they dream they can be. I am specifically looking to make sure my black students feel love and support through me and through my environment. As a black woman, I am trying my hardest to give my students of color an amazing space to delve into their incoming skills.

This project is intended to impact students of color and students with learning disabilities, with a goal to positively support their social emotional growth.

My goal for this project is to provide my students regular access to technology, through a gaming monitor where they can engaged in social emotional learning and projects that benefit their mental health goals. So many of my 7th grade students thrive and rely on technology and this is meant to help engagement be consistent. These items, such as the lamp, couch, rug, and pillows, will make a difference for my students as they will have a safe place to land mentally and physically. These items will create a zen space, that is low lighting, with cozy items such as pillows and a fuzzy rug. For my students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, these cozy items will benefit them regarding stimulation and regulation.

Overall, my students deserve to feel seen and heard and validated through me but also through a mental health space that will create opportunities to grow into themselves while building their self esteem, emotional maturity and peer relationships. By donating to my project, you will be providing opportunities to black and brown students to thrive.
