My students need Math manipulatives and games for visual learning to better understand number sense and concepts. This, unfortunately, is due to language barriers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful and warm-hearted students range in the age of six to seven-years-old. Many of my students have obstacles blocking their success to their academic social journey. Most live in poverty, struggle with the English language and have very limited resources. Some of my students are homeless or live in foster care.
If you were to visit our classroom, you would never know my students were faced with so much adversity in their lives.
The excitement and willingness to learn are what you will see and love!
My Project
We are having a horrible no good math year without interesting math resources!
My English Language Learners are visual learners and having various math manipulatives and tools would help them understand number sense and concepts!
Even though math is universal, it is is so difficult for my students to comprehend math vocabulary. For example, greater than, less than, fraction, and so on are vocabulary words that my students need to SEE and visualize before computing. I want my students to succeed in math as well and whatever I can provide for them to make their learning experience more enriching, fun, and less frustration, then that is why I ask you for your contribution to the success of my students' education.
I can envision myself reading some of the Math books about numbers and watching my students utilize what has been read to them! They will use the Math manipulatives to create and show off their brains of knowledge. Ms. C. doesn't know how to tell time. What time is it? Students will show me! Boys and girls, do I have enough money to buy the bag of chips? C'mon up and use the magnetic coins to show me!
Students are "less than" interested without math manipulatives and games, but with them, they are "greater than" at conceptualizing!
