This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As I wrap up my second year of teaching in Richmond, CA, I am looking forward to welcoming a room full of bright, hopeful, and promising fifth grade scholars in the fall. 100% of our students participate in free or reduced lunch, and 100% of our students come from low-income households.
In creating an environment that promotes critical thinking, creative outlets, and collaboration, I am setting a foundation for the cultivation of powerful leaders.
My focus for this year is to establish a comprehensive and rigorous choice of books for our classroom library. My hope is to open up the world of literacy to the children of our future.
My Project
These materials will be used for establishing an expansive library for my fifth grade students. In a single classroom, students perform at varying academic levels, making it difficult for the material to be accessible to all. In providing this library, we are telling students that we are willing to meet them where they are at and each student deserves to succeed.
Coming back to school after distance learning is going to be challenging for all students, so I want to ensure that they have access to a variety of materials that will support their transition back into the classroom.
This library is being created with the goal that students will be able to dive back into the literature and reading with excitement and opportunity.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
