it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As I began to construct my classroom for the year, I came to find out that my supplies did not include anything for a calming corner to support student emotional regulation. I wanted to ensure a safe and comfortable space in which students could take a step back from the content of the classroom and sit in some flexible seating (the chairs and the rug) with some fidget tools to help them destress and finally some posters to help them self regulate and identify their emotions. My class is unique amongst the other second grade classes in my school as it partners with our MI (low incidence special ed) center so having a space for students and paraprofessionals to ensure that they can take a space to receive any social/emotional accommodations that they may need. This space can also double as a reading space which is an essential goal of the school - getting all students to love and be confident in reading.
