In my fifth grade class, at a public elementary school, as part of a human body unit, we build life-size models of the human body with it's major organs out of paper. Each year the students get excited about making the models, but when they actually get down to placing the organs in the body, it is not that easy to figure out what goes where. Studying pictures and diagrams are OK, but a 3-dimensional torso to demonstrate body organ location and relative size would be awesome! Students could handle and assemble for themselves where the organs go in the human body. Students often learn more from hands-on experiences as well. In summary, I am requesting a mini-torso with removable parts to use in a Human Body unit in science. All 31 of my students would be able to use the model to learn about how the human body works and is put together. This resource would also be something that could be shared with the other fifth grade teachers in my school who teach this unit and used year after year.
