This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our Social Studies classroom for the final quarter of the year, we tackle our Global Issues unit where each class is broken up into literature study groups. Each group reads a work of historical nonfiction and couples it with our textbook readings and documents like the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with our ultimate goal of understanding the warning signs of things like genocide and how to prevent such tragedies.

Help my students tackle this important and difficult historical work.

They are reading high-level texts and 'speaking' directly to them with their highlighters, pens, and sticky notes. By replenishing the materials they require, you are directly supporting their efforts. Given the interdisciplinary nature of this unit, students need extra supplies to help them annotate texts. This is where the need for pencils, pens, highlighters, and sticky notes is greatest and why your donations matter.
