My Students

The students in my classroom have the amazing opportunity to be part of something special...opening a brand new elementary school! Together we are learning how to operate in a 21st Century Learning school and developing our routines and procedures with everything that comes with a new school.

My students come to school eager to learn every day.

They come filled with questions and curiosity and they come filled with genuine kindness. My class works so well together, despite the challenges that are presented to us from the pandemic. The last time my students had a normal school year was in kindergarten, and yet they come to school with a smile on their face every day ready to learn. I truly feel blessed to be their teacher this year and want to make this first year opening a new school together something memorable.

My Project

Being at a school where each student has their own laptop has been an amazing opportunity to enhance learning. Students are able to do so much with their devices, however nothing is more frustrating than opening their laptop to a dead battery or having a low battery and having to find a spot in the classroom to sit on the floor and plug in to keep working. Cords are also all over the classroom causing tripping hazards for students and making it difficult to organize our classroom space.

Having laptops organized and charged each day would help the students be more successful in the classroom.

For example, my students use their laptops to practice their math facts each morning. This helps them work towards standard 3.OA.C.7 where they are expected by the end of third grade to know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers. I am also excited that my students now have the opportunity to practice standard W.3.6 where they can use technology to produce and publish writing and interact and collaborate with others.

Teaching in a pandemic taught us that technology has become increasingly important. Students used Microsoft Teams to help with distance learning, but it also became a useful tool in the classroom. Now students at home can also continue to collaborate with their peers in the classroom through the use of this technology. However, all of this is difficult to do when students are fighting with laptops dying and trying to find a spot to plug into the room.

This project will allow my students to efficiently organize and charge their laptops making our classroom safer to navigate around and ensuring devices are ready to go each morning.
