This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students today need calculators for various reasons, spanning from simple arithmetic tasks to complex mathematical calculations. Firstly, calculators serve as valuable tools for enhancing efficiency in problem-solving. In subjects like mathematics and science, where numerical computations are frequent, calculators expedite the process, allowing students to focus more on understanding concepts rather than getting bogged down in tedious arithmetic. Moreover, calculators can handle intricate equations and functions that might be time-consuming or error-prone if done manually, thereby fostering accuracy and confidence in students' work.

My students are currently in 7th and 8th grade taking Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses.

These students need to take a state exam on the content they learn throughout the school year. These tests do allow the opportunity for students to use a calculator while taking the exam, however many of these students and their parents cannot afford to buy a calculator due to financial situations at home. I am hoping that with your help I am able to have a class set of calculators to lend them to my students when they are in my class, giving them the opportunity to practice and learn how to use it. By giving them this opportunity in my class, not only am I helping them build their confidence for their exam but also helping them prepare for real-life situations in which they can use calculators.
