Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting fidget toys, calming strips, picture books, and other items because our students are students in transition, high ESL and post-COVID children that have struggles with interactions with each other and need support for life in general. I try to start each week of our SEL block with a picture book that matches our target as a school. Our goals are to engage students in lessons that give examples of interactions with others, learning life skills and understanding our emotions. I also am color coding their learning guides to support their metacognition in their learning.

Kids have big emotions.

I know how silly that sounds. We have kids coming to us with bigger and bigger emotions but they do not have the skills or supports to process them. We have a society where the suicide rate is getting higher and higher but the age is getting lower and lower. We have kids in mental hospitals in record numbers. We need to do something to help them be successful and if that means they need a rough sticker or fidget to try, then so be it.
