Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The school district of University City works to transform the life of every student, every day. As teachers, we strive to meet our students on their level and provide real-world experiences that will prepare them for college and beyond.
My students come to school to learn how to compete in an ever changing, competitive world. Though they come from various backgrounds, it is my job to ensure that every student is engaged and challenged.
As a reading specialist, my goal is to create lifelong readers by engaging their interests and ensuring my students have choice in their reading.
My Project
The students in my class come to receive individualized reading instruction. It is extremely difficult to find books that are engaging and on their reading level.
Hi Low books give my students choice in their reading that is interesting and readable. Studies show that the number one way for students to grow in reading is to be reading constantly. It is my job to make sure students are reading at their level and are interested in their reading by providing choice.
Another way to provide choice is to give my students access to the internet in order to practice on interactive reading websites. Chromebooks in the classroom would ensure that my students have this capability.
