My students need these flexible seating choices to move easily around the room! The wobble chairs, stools, and table, though expensive, will give those students that need to move the opportunity to do so quietly!
My fourth grade class is full of active learners. There are 12 eager students ready to get hands on with their learning in their own personal space. They come from a variety of ethnic, economic, and social backgrounds. Our school, like many others, has had to cut our classroom budget. As a result, I will not be able to transform my classroom into a flexible seating classroom without help. We are a class of 12 bright students that enjoy getting our hands, bodies, and minds working and learning.
My Project
Flexible seating has been researched and proven to help students take charge of of their own learning . The classroom is a lot different now from what most of us grew up with. After whole group lessons, students work independently while the teacher works with small groups and individuals to meet each child's learning needs. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Typically, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
