My Students

Do you remember sitting in class, wishing the teacher would just stop talking?? I want to excite my kids into learning... my kids need to cultivate a love of reading and learning through partner work, group collaboration, reading, and experimentation.

I have 29 students at a school in Utah.

Being a teacher, I know it can be difficult to provide any additional support due to lack of funds. Because I am unable to provide these wonderful supplies that would encourage my children to problem solve and think on a higher-level, I am asking help in purchasing them. These supplies are so great because my kids need to have hands-on activities to help them engage in the lessons that I teach. The more time I spend with my students, the more I see the desperate need for excitement in the classroom learning environment. I want my kids to feel joy when they learn, rather than focusing on testing. I want my kids to come back, year after year, and talk to me about what they remember and what they missed about our time together in the learning atmosphere. Please help me fund these supplies so that my kids, my wonderful students, can participate more actively in hands-on learning. Preparing them for their future is more than my job: it is my duty.

My Project

With our science animal and weather kits, my kids can work in groups of 3-4 to read about the concepts, work through problem solving questions, and realize how to collaborate to understand a concept. I want them to learn that science is active, and that it occurs around them even when they might not realize it! With the new focus on STEM learning (science, technology, engineering & math), I want my kids to discover hands-on activities that will provide meaningful learning. The language arts materials (comprehension and grammar books) will help me increase my students' knowledge of concepts I am already teaching in class... I foresee many opportunities for kids to collaborate, problem solve, and explain their findings with these supplies! Along with STEM, I propose that we incorporate STEAM... let's include "art" in the equation through having a commanding use of the English language to help describe their findings in the science kits and along with our writing units!

I can reuse these materials year after year... I was fortunate enough to receive some science books on fossils one year, and can honestly say that having those made a huge difference when it came time to take end of year tests... these kids need to have fun learning, need to work in pairs, and need to realize that reading is fun, exciting, and necessary!

It would mean the world to them, and it always means the world to me, to have these extra supplies that we cannot afford.
