I am from Southside, AL and have been teaching 20 years. Sometimes reading can be a struggle, so I love to offer alternative seating. I have a classroom full of sweet kiddos that love to spread out to read. They enjoy spending time in different places in our room for special small group projects throughout the day, too. I love giving them the opportunity to get up and work closer with a new friend. Kids need to move a lot!
I want my room to feel like home to my kids. A soft, comfy rug will allow them space to stretch out to read or work easily. Staying in the same place all day is too much to ask of little ones. A doorbell would also be a fun attention grabber when something better than my voice is needed. The doorbell would also be used to signal my kids when time is up on whatever we are working on. Kids aren’t natural time managers and this would definitely help start that habit. Giving them the same thing to listen for would be an awesome way to train their minds and bodies.
