My Students

Do you remember getting new books as a child? Going to the book store or seeing the book order arrive at school. Many of my students do not know this feeling. I want to help my students grow a deep attachment to books so they will ask for these types of experiences. To do this, I want to bring new books to my classroom. I feel that bringing many different characters to the classroom will bring reading excitement to my students.

Help me establish a community of readers from day one of 2nd grade.

With technology taking over many aspects of a child's day, I am seeing that my students are becoming less attached to books!

My Project

School is almost back in session and I want to bring my love for reading to my students. In the past, many of my students have found a love for the characters in the Weird School, Weirder School, and Weird School Daze books by Dan Gutman. So, I want to get one of his a books in the hand of every student in my class on day one as well as stock my class library with many other titles.

Reading leads to discovery, knowledge, better writing and most importantly success!

By encouraging the students to read and finding books that help accomplish this, I am sure this class of second graders will be life long readers! Let the reading begin!
