I teach K-12, Speech-Language Impaired students in my local school district. We live in a low-income area with 100% of the students currently receiving free lunches and breakfasts in the school district. Because of the area we live in, we have limited resources for basic school supplies.
My students are striving to do their best, but with recent COVID-19 procedures in place, they are unable to maintain hydration throughout the day without water bottles.
Our school is in the middle of the Ozark Mountains and was once a thriving community. Larger corporations, outside of town, have hurt the small businesses that once thrived here therefore the school has very few local sponsors to help out with supply needs. The kids are enthusiastic about learning, growing their minds, and actively engage in social activities.
My Project
Hydration throughout the day is important for helping kids stay healthy and able to focus on their learning. Using water bottles instead of drinking fountains allows my students to maintain COVID-19 safety protocols such as social distancing and minimum surface contact when getting drinks.
Many of my school kids are unable to purchase basic school supplies such as water bottles due to living in our low-income community.
Water bottles are an important school supply that allows my students to get a drink whenever it's needed because they can keep the bottles with them at all times throughout the day.
Staying hydrated during the day is important to our students' overall health and healthy kids learn better. Having individual water bottles also keeps classroom disruptions down by having fewer trips out of their seats to go to a public water fountain. Please help my students maintain a healthy environment by helping us to purchase individual water bottles for students.
