This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The office chair gives me the opportunity to see students face-to-face, which allows me to explain what I am doing, making the environment welcoming, and keeping us all on the same page. During conversations, I move between students easily because of the swivel feature of the chair, since they're seated opposite each other. Also,, the chairs make it easier for students to share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions because they're comfortable with them.
Since there is a growing need to keep students safe and welcome in my after-school program, I want to provide the best materials for my students, so please help me do that.
A scanner in my afterschool program will allow students to have fun creating art. With scanners, physical artwork can be digitally scanned and showcased online. Students can collaborate on group projects without being physically there.
Writing to pen pals to writing thank you notes, I use pens and paper as much as I can to help my students develop letter writing skills. A calendar helps my students visualize daily activities, anticipate transitions, and reduce anxiety. Visual schedules empower students to manage their time effectively. Games create an opportunity for advisors to connect with students in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
Because pillows make them feel comfortable, they're more likely to talk and share their feelings. When students squeeze or hug a pillow, they feel less anxious and have better emotions during counseling sessions.
In my after school program, having a comfy couch creates a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Students enjoy being able to sit or lie down while bonding with their peers.
Providing a comfortable and supportive space for my after school kiddos is key.
