My Project

I work as an Academic, Social, and Communication teacher in a Title I school with children from ages 5-8. The children in my class have IEP's, and require extra behavior and sensory support throughout the day. I teach a lot of beginning life skills at this age, but one of the most important things I teach is how to self-regulate those big emotions that these littles struggle with day to day, especially when they are learning how to be around new, unfamiliar peers or in new settings. This year I am moving schools, and want to re-vamp the "break" area by adding more sensory supports in my classroom. The students in my class this year range from having autism, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, anxiety, and some that still need further evaluation and are under the classification of developmental delay. My hope that with the Yoga kit, alphabet rug, weighted lap blankets, and other tools, and more focus on emotional health in my classroom this year, that we can have a successful year, creating a safe, and comfortable environment for these kids to learn in.
