My Students

Do you remember the book that changed your life? The book that you just couldn't put down as a child and you would read over and over again? My students have not experienced that joy...yet.

I teach in a Title I school in South Florida.

Most of my students are English Language Learners. Most of these students are of Haitian descent. The majority of the students at our school are from low socioeconomic households where books are not a first priority. Most of these students have very low self-esteem when it comes to their reading because they have never found books that were just right for them.

My Project

These books that you are donating will encourage these students to escape the hardships of their own lives and bury themselves into the world of books. This year, with your help, they will be exposed to a wide variety of books that they will be able to read independently and build their fragile reading confidence. You will help them as they begin their journey to become lifelong readers.

Reading is an art that needs to be practiced and perfected.

The more a child reads, the more successful they will be in all their future endeavors. Your donation will be the beginning of one of my student's lifelong love of reading. Thank you for considering my 3rd grade readers!
