My Project
All students can learn. Each child in a classroom has special challenges and distinct opportunities. Students are capable with technology, yet it is common to be below grade level in basic reading and math skills. Students can work alone, but also enjoy the comradery of the classroom. With rising inflation costs and the lingering effects from the COVID-19 health care crisis, students at my school are facing more socio-economic challenges than ever before. Spending the end of the 2019-2020 school year at home and frequent quarantines the next two years, fourth grade students are presenting with gaps that are having to be addressed as soon as they are noticed. Durant, Oklahoma’s at-promise students need more attention and a more hands-on approach to learning.
For the CLASS 2.0 Grant from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, I have asked class sets of books and math manipulatives to be donated to my classroom.
I feel that the classroom sets of books will be beneficial to my students because they have full length novels to be able to hold in their hands and experience the joy of reading.
They love new books!
Math manipulatives help engage students in learning skills that are boring when presented on paper. The attention range of the post-Covid-19 generation seems to be shorter than before. The benefits to my students will be exponential.
